GQ Style Editor asks Emma all about Shirts
A few months ago I met with GQ magazine Senior Style editor Mahalia Chang to discuss a story she wanted to write. Apparently she has many questions each week from men seeking clarification on how to dress formally again, collar and cuff styles, what to wear for Black Tie, is a dress shirt and evening shirt or a formal shirt and that is just on shirts.
Mahalia came to me as someone who has been thinking, making and selling ready to wear and bespoke shirts for a few decades now and it was really enjoyable to be interrogated on every detail of my chosen subject! It is so encouraging that the heart of the fashion business is pinning down the important dress styles which have developed over time for both practical and aesthetic reasons and shining the light on clothes which are cut and made to stand the test of time, the very opposite of fast fashion.
Here is Mahalia’s story in October’s GQ and my comments on some of our many collar styles which I will have been discussing with many of you no doubt over the years. For bespoke appointments do book in our beautiful new Mayfair showroom and to see our new cashmere and brushed cotton AW collection we look forward to seeing you in the Jermyn Street shop.
From us all at Emma Willis we wish you a happy weekend.
Best wishes,
